Today in Jewish baseball history

1959 — Larry Sherry pitches 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Chicago White Sox 9-3 in Game 6 to clinch the World Series title. He allows four hits and is named the Series MVP with two victories and two saves.

1964 — The Los Angeles Dodgers add long-time scout Harold “Lefty” Phillips to their coaching staff. Phillips, a former Chicago Cubs minor-league pitcher who later signed Larry Sherry, was immediately named manager of the Dodgers’ team in the Arizona Instructional League.

2013 — Craig Breslow strikes out the first four Tampa Bay batters he faces and gets the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief as the Boston Red Sox defeat the Rays 3-1 and clinch the American League Division Series.

2021 — First baseman Rowdy Tellez throws out a runner a home during a first-inning double play, then hits a two-run homer in the seventh to give the Milwaukee Brewers a 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves in the first game of the National League Divisional Series. Joc Pederson hits a pinch-hit homer in the eighth inning for Atlanta, giving him at least one home run in each of the past six postseasons.
